The Ataris story reads like a punk-rock fairytale: teenager lives in boring midwestern
town (Indiana); spends all his time writing and recording songs in his room; goes to a
Vandals show and gives the band a tape; weeks later he gets a call from Vandals
founder/owner of Kung-Fu Records, Joe Escalante asking to do a record for his label;
moves to California and puts band together with drummer Derrick Plourde
(Ex-Lagwagon); makes record "Anywhere but here" (Produced by Vandals' guitarist
Warren Fitzgerald); gets invited to tour with some of his favorite bands (see below);
puts together solid new line-up; becomes Fat Mike's (NoFX) favorite new band, who
then releases their EP, "Look Forward to Failure" (Fat Wreck Chords), produced by
members of the Decendents; the saga continues with, "Blue Skies, Broken Hearts
... Next 12 Exits" produced by Lagwagon singer/producer, Joey Cape; Currently they
are planning a short European tour.

pitfall-but collect nintendo games now, tell everyone to send me free nintendo games!

no the closest thing we did to that is we have a 7 inch that we sell at our shows with three old songs from the demos

Would you play on MTV given the opportunity?

yea, probably, but not at this point in our career. maybe in the future...

Have you ever played burger time?

yes - fun game

How did you meet fat mike?

through our old drummer derrick

So how is the new CD gonna be different from everything else?

well first it is called 'End is Forever' and will be out around october. its going to be a little more diverse - like taking our best songs and expanding them.

Do you like computers?

no - i dont own one and I never will. I spent the money I had for a computer on a car

Kris whats your fav ataris song?

your boyfriend sucks or my hotel year

Is it weird to know that you are someones hero?

yes - but its flaterring also!

Is it true you guys bring fans on stage to play guitar for 'Broken Promise Ring'?

yes - we insist. so everyone learn that song so that they can play it!!

What sort of effects do you guys use on your guitars?

nothing - I use a marshall jcm 800 amp that used to belong to blake from jawbreaker and a les paul standard guitar

Have you heard of bootleg tapes of you guys playing shows would you ever think to take legal action or make them legal and sell them yourself?

no we like it when people tape our shows, and as long as you ask us, we'll usually let you tape us.

Does warren from the vandals scare you?

everyone would be surprised that warren is the most calm mellow guy you've ever met

Would you ever think of starting your own record company like joey and fat mike and many others?

maybe - but the way I feel right now is that there are too many good record companies that go unheard of as it is.

How much longer do you think the ataris are going to last before you break up?

thats pretty unpredictable. right now everyone in the band is a best friend. and I forsee the band lasting a long time.

What made you want to become a musician?

my mom and dad were always very supportive - and my dad was always into music.

I heard from mike you guys were going to play warped? is it official?

as far as we know of right now, yes

rarely because were always on tour and I dont have a computer

Do you get to meet all of the bands on fat wreck chords or kung fu since you recorded for them?

yea a lot of those bands are our good friends

Kris I stole Joey from lagwagons hat, will you trade it for an ataris hat and return it to him?

yea sure

You guys are touring machines, do you ever get tired of being on the road?

not at all, well there are defintiely things you miss about home, but I wouldn't want to do anything else

Is there any truth to the rumor that you are pregnant with joey lawrences love child?

no but I saw blossom walking on state street once

What is the best live show youve ever seen?

avail is the best live band period

When are you coming back to Oklahoma City?

anyone who wants to know about our tour dates, go to www.ataris.com, they are updated frequently, when paul isn't slow.

Does it scare you that getting too big could cause you to lose earlier fans leaving you with only fairweather fans?

what do you want a band to do - work at mcdonalds for the rest of their lives? look at such good bands as mxpx, blink 182, lagwagon, etc.

You guys watch any TV? if so what shows?

dont watch very much tv at all.

When are you planning to have a break from touring?

when we record our next record, late april to june were at home.

What is the significance of stars on your t-shirts/albums/webpage?

I feel that no matter how long everyone on earth survives you can look up and see the stars. and it makes you realize how small we really are.
